This gourmet extra virgin cold pressed olive oil is produced by traditional methods from a single estate bordering the WWF Nature Reserve of the Calanchi near the old Roman town of Atri in Abruzzo. The Villa Gran Sasso is a very special property that featured in Channel 4's 'A Place in the Sun' programme in 2005. It is situated at 400m but only 10km from the Adriatic sea. This means that the olives never become too hot in the summer and ripen to produce olive oil with the long-chain molecules that provide the best, freshest most perfect flavour. The olive grove is situated on calcareous soil facing south-west to the Gran Sasso which rises to just short of 3000m. The cultivation is biological and the olives are harvested manually. No pesticides at all are used and so butterflies and even fireflies are extremely numerous in May and June.
